JASON HARRIS
 COMPOSER | CONDUCTOR

Schola Cincinnati, and previously served ten seasons as Associate Conductor of the University Musical Society Choral Union, where he prepared the chorus for performances under such conductors as Valery Gergiev, Michael Tilson Thomas, Sir Neville Marriner, and composer John Adams, among others. In 2006, Dr. Harris received two Grammy Awards (“Best Choral Performance” and “Best Classical Album”) as a choral director for the critically acclaimed Naxos recording of William Bolcom’s monumental Songs of Innocence and of Experience.

 

From 2011 to 2015 Dr. Harris served as Director of Choral Ensembles and Assistant Professor of Conducting at the Oberlin College Conservatory of Music, where he conducted the historic Oberlin College Choir and Oberlin Musical Union, and taught undergraduate and graduate choral conducting and choral literature. He has also served on the faculties of Eastern Illinois University, Xavier University (OH), and the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for Early Music Seattle.

 

Dr. Harris holds degrees from Chapman University (CA) and the University of Michigan.

Grammy Award-winning conductor Jason Harris is an active composer, performer, and music educator based out of Seattle. Dr. Harris' compositions have been performed by academic and professional choirs across the country, including the University of Cincinnati Choruses and the Penn State University choruses. He has presented conducting masterclasses and lectures on choral performance and repertoire for the Eastman School of Music, the University of Michigan, the Cleveland Orchestra, and numerous other performing arts organizations.

Dr. Harris is the founding Artistic Director of the American Prize-winning early music ensemble
